I have had a wonderful experience in Hardiwar and Rishikesh.(North of Delhi, by Dedra Dun) Two holy cities, they beleive that the river Gangas comes from God. Hundreds to thousands of people come every day to bathe and drink--washing away their sins. Little boats made from coconut leaves, filled with flowers, a lighted candle and incense, are sent down the Gunga at night for good wishes, a really beautiful sight. (There's one floating for you,Faye)Also everynight, chanting by young boys dressed in gold, some get in a trance, some just are being boys. The sun sets and this statue of Shiva, one of their main gods, is in the background. Every house has an alter, as does every shop. They pray everyday, and only go to the Temples on a special occasion.
No population controll in India for man or beast.
